PAMELA HEATH GALLERY
Featured Artist for December 2011
I drew my first cartoon strip at the age of seven. My love of art was fostered by my parents, who took me to see the world's greatest masterpieces in museums throughout the US and Europe. I began publishing and selling my work in small magazines and science fiction art shows during college. This success encouraged me to begin experimenting with realistic illustrations while getting an MD at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. I had little time for art beyond the occasional cartoon until finishing my residency in Anesthesia at the University of Missouri.
While practicing medicine full time, I began working in oils. I eventually took some courses in sculpture, pottery and painting at the Crealdé school of art in Winter Park. My paintings and sculpture were shown in three galleries in Orlando and sold at shows. I then moved to the Navaho Indian Reservation, where I worked for two years as the Chief of Anesthesia at Chinle Hospital. My work during this time shifted to landscapes, trying to capture the beauty of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument.
In 1995, I returned to school, this time for a doctorate in psychology specializing in parapsychology (PsyD). Since then, I have published multiple books, journal articles, and chapters, including: The PK Zone, Suicide: What Really Happens in the Afterlife?, Handbook to the Afterlife, and Mind-Matter Interaction: Historical Reports, Research and Theory. I joined the Alameda Art Association in 2009, and now divide my time between writing, paranormal work, and painting. More of her artwork, including a sample of my cartoons, can be seen on my website. My mugs can also be seen here.
