The Alameda Art Association was formed in 1944 in Alameda, California. It's purpose was to encourage the visual arts, and to serve as a medium of communication between local artists. It is nonpolitical and non-sectarian, and encourages a wide variety of artistic styles. For the last 65 years the Alameda Art Association has has worked continuously to promote art in the community.

On May 1st, 2009, the Alameda Art Association opened its own gallery at Alameda Art Association Gallery is in Alameda South Shore Center, next door to See's Candies (off Park and Otis Dr. in Alameda). The gallery houses a variety of styles, price ranges, and art.

  • 12:00-5:30 PM - Wednesday through Sunday
  • Usually closed on Monday and Tuesday
  • Closed Christmas Day.

The Alameda Art Association is open to any artist age 18 or older whose work is approved by a jury and pays dues. You can download the application form here.


The Alameda Art Association is open to any artist age 18 or older in the local area (or otherwise associated with Alameda) whose work has been reviewed and accepted. (Please note that as a family-friendly gallery, most nudes are considered inappropriate for hanging here). If interested in joining, please download the application form here and return the completed form WITHOUT a check to the Alameda Art Association Gallery in South Shore Center. You will need to be able to submit four jpegs of your original work by email for review by the committee. We encourage all members to ahve some means to reach them via email, with texts and phone numbers as a backup. Fees are due upon acceptance to the Association.

To be eligible for a gallery page on our website, you must be hosting, supporting, and hanging in the Alameda Art Association Gallery.

The success of our Gallery is predicated on being committed, active and supportive, by every member, in all our functions and activities.

PLEASE NOTE: Belonging in the Art Association does not guarantee you a spot in the Gallery, which requires pre-approval of your art and space availability.
